But if you are devoid of cortisol, there is something called “the pregnenalone steal” … the cortisol is ‘flat’ and steals the supplemental pregnenalone you are taking. … It’s why it’s so important to do saliva circadian rhythm tests of the adrenals and the hormones- all day. See where it’s going!!

Re. pregnenolone itself: I would add only that pregnenolone is essential to allopregnanolone production (via progesterone) and that PEA accelerates the pregnenolone – progesterone – allopregnanolone cascade.

Re. the effect of stress-related hypercortisolemia: cortisol’s downregulation of deiodinase 1 (& 2), and up regulation of deiodinase 3 leads in sum, to intracellular T3 starvation and consequent low T3 syndrome, which adds hypothyroid symptoms to whatever underlying condition the individual might be suffering. So in addition to taking pregnenolone, everyone should take DHEA and PEA, and everyone should check for LT3S , which is very nicely treatable with slow-release triiodothyronine (liothyronine).
